| What do all those letters mean? The letters that are in front of and behind the registered name of a dog are called 'titles' that the dog has won. Take for example my Brandy, UKC CH, UKC CD, AKC CH pointed Bayou Bend Second Shott O'Brandy CD, RN, RA, CGC, FFX-O Gold. The UKC CH title means she has won her United Kennel Club conformation Championship. A CD is the title for a AKC or UKC compainion dog, which is an obedience title. The RN and RA are rally obedience titles that stand for Rally Novice and Rally Advanced. The CGC is an AKC certification for the Canine Good Citizen. For more information on what each of the letters mean, please go to THIS website. I think it gives a clear understanding about which title means what. For a list of AKC titles a Labrador can earn please CLICK HERE for the LRC's list. When researching a breeder, make sure that they are currently involved in the sport. This can mean that they do obedience, conformation, agility, hunt tests, field trials, rally, tracking, and any combination of these. If a breeder isn't involved in the sport of dogs, most likely they aren't doing anything productive with their dogs and are probably just breeding. Always ask questions about what event their dogs are being tested in to make sure they are worthy of being bred and reproducing. And ALWAYS make sure they have the proper health testing!! |
